Gwangmyeong Cave

Gwangmyeong Cave began as a mine developed by the Japanese in 1912 for resource exploitation and was a site of forced labor and resource plundering during the Japanese colonial era. It was closed in 1972 and used as a storage facility for salted shrimp for about 40 years. In 2011, Gwangmyeong City transformed it into a historical and cultural tourist destination and a cave theme park. The cave's interior maintains an average temperature of 12°C (53.6°F) year-round, making it a refreshing retreat during the summer. Inside, you can enjoy a spectacular media art show with vibrant lighting and music, view various sculptures and art installations, and visit a wine cellar where you can taste and purchase wine at affordable prices.
