VinBus

VinBus is a free shuttle bus service operated by VinGroup, connecting Vinpearl resorts and major hotels in the northern region of Phu Quoc. It is free for anyone to use, regardless of whether they are guests at a resort. It is a convenient mode of transport that links key tourist destinations such as VinWonders, Vinpearl Safari, King Kong Mart, Duong Dong Night Market, Phu Quoc Airport, and the Sonasea area. VinBus has a variety of routes with short intervals and frequent operations, allowing you to save on transportation costs. It is highly recommended to install the VinBus app, as its accuracy is excellent.

VinBus Route 17 (Frequency: 10-15 minutes) Route 17 runs from Phu Quoc Airport to Grand World. Near Grand World, there are free shuttles that connect to various resorts and hotels. You can also take a buggy (Tuk-tuk), taxi, or Grab to your accommodation. This route is useful for northern residents to travel to the city center or King Kong Mart.

The Sunset Town free shuttle bus connects tourist attractions in the southern part of Phu Quoc, running between Sunset Town and southern resorts every 30 to 60 minutes. When you get on, just tell the driver your destination, and they will drop you off there. There are two routes: one connecting various resorts to Sunset Town and another connecting to the Hon Thom Island cable car.

Grab is a must-have app for traveling in Southeast Asia. It was the most convenient mode of transportation during my trip to Phu Quoc, as it is similar to popular ride-sharing services like Uber or Lyft.

How to Use Grab

Before your trip, register a credit or debit card with international payment capabilities.
Hail a ride: Launch the app, and your current location will be detected automatically. Select your pickup location and search for or pinpoint your destination on the map.
You can choose between a motorbike, 4-seater car, or 7-seater car.
After checking the vehicle type and estimated fare, confirm the ride, and payment will be processed instantly.
Once a vehicle is selected, you can see its real-time location and estimated arrival time. You can also chat with the driver if needed.
When the vehicle arrives, check the license plate to confirm it's the one you booked before getting in.
Once you arrive at your destination, you can exit the vehicle.

Taxi

Fares are paid in cash, so prepare some small bills in advance.
Always confirm the fare on the meter or using a smartphone meter app in the front seat.

Taxis sometimes overcharge tourists. It's best to use Grab whenever possible. If Grab is not an option, check the approximate fare using the Grab app beforehand and negotiate with the driver. When departing from a hotel or resort, it's safer to ask the hotel to call a taxi for you rather than hailing one on the street.

Tour Taxi & Tour Rental Car

If you plan a day-long tour with a long itinerary, it's a good idea to use a tour taxi or a tour rental car. Sometimes Grab or taxi drivers will give you their business cards or KakaoTalk IDs to promote their private charter services for the day. If you meet a friendly and pleasant driver, you might consider contacting them for a tour service. These services typically have pre-planned daily itineraries, and you can often add or remove destinations as you wish.

A tour rental car is a similar concept but includes a driver with the rental. You can book this in advance through travel agencies in your home country or by inquiring at your hotel's front desk. Booking through apps like Klook is also an option.

Tips for Using

You can store your shopping bags in the car, making it convenient when you are enjoying both shopping and sightseeing.
This is useful when visiting less popular attractions where it's difficult to hail a Grab.
There are no distance restrictions, making it suitable for long-distance travel.
You can use Google Translate to communicate effectively with the driver.
If the driver is kind and makes your trip enjoyable, consider a tip of 50,000 to 100,000 VND.
